Loved the movie, and the show just levels the whole thing up some. Goosebumps!
I’m not sure if it’s that this show gets me or that I get the show, but it has been life changing, and that’s not a hyperbole.
The series is a surrealist animation and an interview happening in parallel. The two will wrestle for your attention, and the juggling required will hopefully spin up your brain to get it in a receptive state.
The line between reality and fantasy is blurred in the show but, more importantly, it doesn’t even matter, as the topics transcend the medium. The concepts of death, or contentment or suffering or joy, for example, are universal, imagined or real.
Future Man is the perfect cure for the quarantine season, to be mixed in with whatever else you’re watching right now.
I’m two seasons in and it has been such a delight.
A comedy show that doesn’t take itself too seriously while having a killer undercurrent going on you might struggle to spot at first. There is lots of, “hey, but what’s actually, actually going on” going on.
In search for some escapism, devoured this series in almost an (a 5 hour long one) instant. Still have the sweet finale left for tomorrow.
Period drama not your thing? Oh get off your high horse, Henry, of course it is. Eight out of eight footballs.
Hulu / FX just started airing a new short series “Devs” (as in “developers”). It’s a quantum computing fantasy that is both very serene and spooky. Excellent acting! As for writing, i can’t figure out if it’s meta and in two quantum states itself, or just plain bad at times (at times, where you could lipsync the dialog for the next 5 minutes without having ever seen it). Atmosphere though!
Five out of five qubits.
I’ve seen just the first ep so far, but this one pulls no punches. The premise might not sound like much but it’s the million tiny details that change everything. The best part – the first episode is excellently paced 90 minutes. Times we’re living in!
Absolutely mesmerizing
This one’s also crazy good. First you think it’s about one thing but it’s actually about another but, deep down, actually actually, it’s about something completely else.
Being a good bit cynical and breaking through the fourth wall from the get go, while very different, How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) feels like the beginning of Mr Robot. It being in german only makes things more fun, especially if you do speak the language. Check it!
Awesomely crazy animation style and two hours chock-full of dreamlike action, easy the best animated thing I’ve seen in a good while, and the plot’s fun too!
Now I feel bad for staying away from the movie for so long as I was afraid of it not standing up to the animated movies and series (plus all the noise about cultural appropriation / whitewashing etc etc). If anything, it is a tribute to the series, and a pretty faithful one at that. In short, it’s pretty great – check it!
Theeeee umbrella academy is awesomer than it looks from outside, not that umbrellas wouldn’t be cool or anything, but this tv series def beats all the recent paranormal / action / oddness galore / superhero stuff – a warm recommend!
Zero Theorem meets The Double meets sheer brilliance.
As netflix has put it: “This programme is: … feel good”
Also can serve as a good first step into discovering the sweet side of Korea.
There are many good shows on right now, but there is just one second season of GLOW. And that one has given me chills from the very first minute. Don’t miss it!
And, as always, i’m super jelly if you haven’t seen the show at all as that means you have so many extra episodes.
If you can get your hands on this (it’s in netflix now) – give yourself a present and watch it. Powerful story telling, observant comedy and stories that I bet will stick with you long after.
“The Good Place” is funny, crazy charming, tiny bit philosophical on ethics and explores it’s device to fullest and you should def watch it (like nefflix or torrent bcos capitalism etc). Oh and I sure as shirt hope there will be a 3rd season!
I was popping open nefflix to watch me some good old Homeland, when ASDFJWWHAAAFAAAWHAAAA Altered carbon is finally here!
The netflix tv series based on the eponymous book series which if you haven’t read and do like yourself a hard-boiled cyberpunk sci-fi detective (and don’t think blade runner but ok you can but don’t), you most def should. Prolly the book before the series though because the book is ice cold awesome (def the first 2 ones) but ye, it’s here and in all 4k no less ofc
Four and three and two, and one-one. The season 4 of Broad City is here and if you still are not on the boat, you have fantastic 3 seasons to catch up with before this. Otherwise – get ready for a mentalicious trip!
And they do mean “graphic”.
Check out “Kantaro – The Sweet Tooth Salaryman” in netflix. So off-beat, you will keep pinching yourself (half omg what in the world i am watching and half am i really watching this). 5 out of 5 Kantaros. すごい!
Very wrong and right, about coming of age, and puberty, and relationships, and life, and misery, and happiness, Big Mouth is pretty crazy. Check it out, except if you are the prudish type. In which case, get over it, and then check it out!
